Greener Kirkcaldy’s Moving Up a Gear project aimed to encourage more cycling in and around Kirkcaldy. It ran from April 2022 to March 2023. The project offered cycle rides, training, bike maintenance workshops, build a bike courses, and volunteering opportunities.
One person who benefited from getting involved is Caroline Lukes, who gained confidence in using a bike for commuting after borrowing an e-bike from our popular bike library. Caroline had never considered switching from motor vehicles to cycling before, but after her car broke down and needed a costly repair, she applied to borrow an e-bike from the library. She has since bought a bike. Her family have also become keen cyclists and Caroline’s colleagues are considering cycling too.
The project’s activities helped people gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to cycle more for day-to-day journeys, ultimately promoting the use of active travel.
